Cooking Beat’s A fuses jazz/swing with hip hop.
It is a combination between heavy hip-hop beats and jazz/swing samples that creates Electro Swing, re-emerging the sounds of the ’30s and ’40s
Electro swing is a musical genre combining the influence of vintage or modern swing and jazz mixed with hip hop. Successful examples of the genre create a modern and dance-floor focused sound that is more readily accessible to the modern ear but that also retains the feeling of live brass and the energetic excitement of the early swing recordings.
Jazz Hop is a fusion subgenre of hip hop music and jazz, developed in the late 1980s and early 1990s. AllMusic writes that the genre “was an attempt to fuse African-American music of the past with a newly dominant form of the present, paying tribute to and reinvigorating the former while expanding the horizons of the latter”. Musically, the rhythms have been typically those of hip hop rather than jazz, over which are placed repetitive phrases of jazz instrumentation: trumpet, double bass.
